As Artificial Intelligence becomes increasingly embedded in critical infrastructure — from energy grids and transport systems to healthcare and public services — ensuring that these technologies are developed and deployed responsibly has become more important than ever.

The upcoming webinar “Addressing Ethics & Regulatory Challenges in AI for Safety-Critical Infrastructure” will bring together experts from the fields of AI, ethics, regulation and critical infrastructure to explore how innovation can be aligned with safety, accountability, public trust and societal resilience.

Participants will gain insights into the key ethical principles that should guide the development and deployment of AI in high-impact environments, including fairness, accountability, transparency, safety and human oversight. The discussion will also address the evolving regulatory landscape and its implications for the design, operation and governance of AI systems.

From regulation to real-world implementation

Deploying AI in safety-critical environments presents challenges that go beyond technological performance. Questions around responsibility, human decision-making, governance, auditability and compliance are becoming increasingly central as AI systems take on a growing role in critical infrastructure.

Through expert presentations, real-world perspectives and a panel discussion, the webinar will explore:

  • Ethical risks and regulatory challenges related to AI in critical infrastructure;
  • Governance, accountability and auditability of AI systems;
  • Human oversight, responsibility and decision-making in automated environments;
  • Practical experiences and case studies from the energy and transport domains;
  • Approaches to responsible AI governance and deployment.

Expert perspectives

The webinar will be hosted and moderated by Ricardo Chavarriaga (ZHAW) and will feature contributions from experts working at the intersection of AI, ethics, regulation and critical infrastructure.

Confirmed speakers and panellists include:

  • Natacha Galan, Risk Manager at AXPO Group;
  • Argyro Amidi, Legal Counsel at Fourdotinfinity and Chair of the ADRA Topic Group on Ethics.

Additional contributions from experts in AI policy, ethics and critical infrastructure are expected as part of the programme.
